Our Work:

BreatheStrong™ is an exciting, easy-to-learn proactive system of self-care developed by Donald Rubbo. The BreatheStrong™ system is a gentle, yet profound process that integrates Eastern spiritual and healing practices and transformative philosophies with a modern approach.

Donald and his wife, Cheryl Lynne, are building a synergistic community of practitioners working, with every breath, to effect global change. BreatheStrong™ is a system of diaphragmatic breathing techniques, a gentle method specifically designed by Donald Rubbo to retrain body, mind and spirit for mindful living, living in the present moment centered in your body with joy, clarity and generosity.

The breathwork is a profound method of purification, facilitating internal and external cleansing. External purification is achieved through forms work (the actual physical movements of stance work); walking; hiking; and other mundane activities, in order to sweat out the toxins that are lodged in the body and bring the body into a state of relaxation. Internal purification is achieved through breathwork and intention, releasing carbon dioxide and bringing stability to the mind and emotions.

Once the body is purified, the mind becomes clear and the emotions become radiant.

The Work is based on the following principles:

  • Virtue, Integrity
  • Self-purification, the desire to look within and do the work
  • Postures, Stances, Formswork
  • Breath control, mindfulness and control of the breath
  • Sense control, mindfulness and control of the sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin)
  • Concentration
  • Meditation, or Contemplation

The breath is disciplined by breathing deep into the lungs, through flexing the diaphragm rather than breathing shallowly by flexing the rib cage. This deep breathing is marked by expansion of the abdomen, on the inhalation, rather than the upper chest. To breathe deeply, diaphragmatically, the air is drawn air into the lungs as long, slow intakes of air - allowing the body to absorb all of the inhaled oxygen.

The benefits of deep breathing have been known since the beginning of human existence, in countless cultures and in profound spiritual practices. People have developed and practiced deep breathing systems for centuries:

  • to reach levels of ecstasy
  • to connect with the divine
  • to understand the deeper mysteries of life
  • and to increase health and prolong life.

Donald and Cheryl Lynne chose the phrase BreatheStrong to invoke the thought of taking a long, deep, health-enhancing breath.
